Donald T. Plank, President

Don is the President and Founder. Having had responsibility for legal proceedings in public and private sectors since 1980, he has represented clients in all phases of land purchase and development, e.g., transactional work, annexation, zoning, access and easements. Don is sought out by both public condemning authorities and private property owners involved in eminent domain matters. He combines his in-depth knowledge of zoning and land acquisition processes with his ability to identify the motivations of the opposing parties as he protects our clients’ constitutional property rights.

As Columbus, Ohio’s Chief Real Estate Attorney for four years, Don managed all real estate matters for the City, including eminent domain negotiation and litigation, leases, purchase and sales contracts, Federal development grants and city/private cooperative developments. This experience, as well as his family’s long history in the hospitality industry, has contributed to his ease in communicating with members of the surrounding communities to bring about change in our clients’ favor.

Don Plank is licensed to practice law in all Ohio state courts.


David Watkins

David has litigated real estate / eminent domain cases since 1992 in civil, criminal, administrative and appellate courts. Knowledge of legal areas such as construction, contract issues, employment and liability enables him to partner effectively with builders, architects, engineers, surveyors and appraisers.

Other legal areas in which David practices include transportation (truck crash / trucking company / trucker liability; personal injury), agricultural law and intellectual property law. David has worked extensively in the agricultural industry. As a produce broker (licensed under the PACA – Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act), procurement manager and production supervisor, from small company founder to direct sales, he knows business and applies this savvy to legal strategy development. It is his thorough research, persistence and common-sense approach that brings our clients back.

David Watkins is licensed to practice law in all Ohio state courts and the U.S. District Court.


Christopher R. Kessler

Chris’ background in contract/lease drafting and negotiation comes from running a commercial and residential real estate leasing company. His responsibilities have ranged from accounting and bid proposal review to oversight of company profitability. Plans he develops jointly with our clients to address their legal concerns are enhanced by the unique knowledge he has gained developing and implementing successful strategic plans for his family business.

Rebecca J. Mott

Rebecca brings to Plank Law Firm a unique blend of experience in both the public and private sectors in multiple facets of real estate law, including commercial real estate transactions, land use and zoning, development, leasing, wireless telecommunications leasing (including pole attachments, DAS and small cell technology), construction, annexation, eminent domain and title to real property.  Having acted as the primary attorney handling all real estate legal matters for a large state agency and in private practice at a national law firm, Rebecca not only directed complex real estate transactions and projects from contracting stage through closing, but counseled and advised public officials, senior management, property owners, builders and developers on viable legal and business options and strategy.  Her expertise in drafting all types of real estate agreements and legislation, as well as her analytical and negotiation skills, enable effective coordination and problem solving with municipal, township and county boards and commissions in land use and development issues.  Transactions she’s managed have ranged in size from several hundred thousand to multi-million dollars, involving office buildings, land acquisitions, industrial property, retail buildings, assisted living and senior housing facilities, affordable housing projects and condominiums.

Rebecca Mott has been licensed to practice law in Ohio since 2005 and in West Virginia since 2008 and is licensed in Ohio as a real estate agent.
