As the former Chief Real Estate Attorney for the City of Columbus, Don managed all real estate matters for the City of Columbus, including eminent domain negotiation and litigation, leases, easements, real estate purchase and sales contracts, federal development grants, and public/private cooperative development agreements.
Since 1987 to the present, Don has been the owner and partner of Plank & Brahm, LPA, and now, Plank Law Firm, LPA. Plank Law Firm, LPA, under Don’s lead, provides legal representation in connection with all phases of land development, including purchase transactions, annexation, access and easements, zoning, utilities, land use and municipal law. Don routinely represents developers, home builders, owners, investors, sellers, and purchasers in all of their real estate needs.
Don is sought out by those respective clients in the foregoing legal services due to his 43 years of invaluable experience and highly regarded, accomplished career in all facets of real estate law. In addition, due to Don’s personal experience and family’s long history in the Columbus hospitality industry, Don brings his exceptional skills - in communicating and relating well with others, effective conflict resolution, problem-solving aptitude, and charm and wit - to all of his dealings with members of the surrounding communities, municipal and township staff and leadership, to bring about change and proven results in his clients’ favor. Don graduated with a BA in finance, with a minor in marketing from The Ohio State
University in 1975 and achieved the distinction of Cum Laude, Phi Alpha Kappa. In 1979, Don graduated from Capital University Law School with his law degree, and became licensed to practice law in Ohio the same year.
Don is a member of the Columbus Bar Association.
